| Landscape Architects do more than choose the right plants for the right location. They are professional designers who will assess a property and creatively prepare a masterplan that is visually pleasing and incorporates all the design elements that are desired for any outdoor living space. |

| The initial client meeting is the first step in the design process. The landscape architect meets with clients to discuss design elements for the project site and may begin to form ideas on how to address the client's needs. Oftentimes, clients do not have a well-formed idea on what they would like to see in their yard. A professional designer can assist the homeowner in choosing desirable design elements. |

| Developing an accurate base plan is among the most important steps in the design process. This plan shows all the existing features of the property including the property lines, rights- of- way, easements, buildings, fences, utilities, plant materials, and any other site element. Depending on the projected scope of work, the landscape architect may be able to prepare a base map based on field measurements and existing deed information. However, if the property is large and has great variations in the slope of the land, a basemap prepared by a professional surveyor may be recommended. Tree House Studios can assist clients in finding a professional surveyor for this task. | ![]() |

| Once the basemapping is complete and design elements have been established, the landscape architect begins to prepare sketches and concepts. These sketch plans are usually completed in a basic format utilizing simple shapes to develop the relationships between all design elements. Several sketch plans may be prepared depending upon the complexity of site and design features. These sketch plans are then presented to the clients to determine what concepts are pleasing. Many clients choose particular design elements from each sketch, and the final masterplan is developed by combining the desired features. | ![]() |

| Once the desired design elements are established the final masterplan can be developed. This plan combines all of the elements of the design into one plan and includes specific details on plant materials, paving materials, and construction details. The masterplan may be used by the client to install the design themselves, or if desired, they may take it to a landscape contractor. Tree House Studios can assist the client in selection of a competent landscape contractor to install the plan. | ![]() |

| Most of our
clients choose to implement the final plan themselves over a period of
years based on available time and monetary resources. Selecting materials
at a favorite garden center or nursery is noticeably less stressful with
a copy of a masterplan in hand. Clients have unlimited flexibility to choose
how their property is developed.
Some homeowners prefer to hire a professional landscape contractor to install all or parts of the masterplan. Tree House Studios will assist clients in selecting a qualified landscape contractor. Copies of the final masterplan are sent to selected contractors to solicit bids for the work to be completed. Based on these estimates, the client chooses an appropriate professional. |
