Each residential property is unique. The physical features of adjacent lots in a development may be identical, but the families that live within them  make each one different. Landscape Architects are professional designers who can create dynamic outdoor spaces to fit any lifestyle.

Good Reasons to Hire a Landscape Architect
Benefits of a Masterplan
  • Landscape Architects provide comprehensive design services from initial site analysis to completion of a masterplan.
  • Landscape Architects address the functional relationships between design elements, the character of spaces to be created, and consider the size, shape, color and texture of  all proposed materials.
  • Landscape Architects are working to provide the best solution for a client based on unique site conditions and the desired use of the property.
  • Landscape Architects do not sell plant materials or any other construction material and do not specify such items to reduce a surplus inventory.
  • Landscape Architects who focus their skills on residential design are creative, artistic, and achieve great satisfaction in facing the unique challenges of every  property.

  • A Masterplan shows all the existing features and proposed design elements of your entire property. It provides clients with an overall picture of the home and yard.
  • A Masterplan lets clients implement the plan at their own time and pace. A homeowner can construct the plan over a span of 2 years or 20 years.
  • A Masterplan specifies exact plant and construction materials necessary to complete the proposed design. This greatly simplifies the shopping experience for the client.
  • A  well designed landscape increases the value of a property between 15%-30%.
  • A Masterplan saves clients time and money by specifying plantings that are appropriate for the location in which they are planted.
BASIC PRINCIPLES OF RESIDENTIAL DESIGN
Masterplan A residential property can be divided up into a series of outdoor spaces, much like the interior space of a home. Most properties have a well-defined front yard, back yard, and two side yards which can  be divided into smaller spaces. For example, the front yard can be divided into the front curb/property line area, driveway area, entry walk area, and the outdoor foyer area. Most of these spaces are viewed by the general public, are well-maintained  and are most likely to be adorned with outdoor decorations including banners, lights, and other decorations.

The side yards are transition zones from the front yard to the back yard and may include walkways, gates, fences and basic utility features including air conditioners, electric boxes, gas valves, and basement doors.

The rear yard is the most private area of your property and includes spaces for work, recreation, entertainment and relaxation.  Design elements may include decks, spas, pools, patios, outdoor kitchens, tennis courts, play equipment, athletic fields and formal garden areas. Separate areas may also be needed for clotheslines, woodpiles, and storage buildings.
